The European Union could “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it deems “unjustified” visa bans imposed by the US on five Europeans involved in fighting online hate and misinformation, an EU official stated.
European Leaders Condemn US Move as ‘Coercion’
European leaders such as Emmanuel Macron accused Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, following the travel bans targeted individuals that were at the heart of efforts to introduce laws regulating US-based technology firms.
“For too long, European activists have led coordinated campaigns to pressure American platforms to punish US perspectives they oppose,” stated the US secretary of state online. “The current administration will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”
